About Antisemitism Today

Antisemitism refers to prejudice and/or discrimination against Jews as individuals and as a group. Anti-Semitism is based on stereotypes and myths that target Jews as a people, their religious practices and beliefs, and the Jewish State of Israel. (ADL)

Already at an all-time high before the Hamas terrorist attack, antisemitic incidents in the U.S. have tripled since October 7 according to a recent ADL report.

Antisemitism on Campus

Hate speech, intolerance and acts of antisemitism on campus have risen sharply since the October 7 attack on Israel. “In recent years, campuses have become a new proving ground for the tactics of all manner of extremists, forcing some colleges and universities onto the frontline in the fight against extremism and anti-Semitism.” (ADL)

The BDS Movement

The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement is an anti-Israel campaign that seeks to use economic leverage in order to create a world without a Jewish state.

  • The movement is a loosely connected network of Palestinian civil society groups coordinated by the Palestinian BDS National Committee.
  • Many affiliated groups lead and coordinate the charge in the United States, including US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, Jewish Voice for Peace, and Students for Justice in Palestine.
  • BDS supporters claim its movement is one of nonviolence. However, it’s co-founder, Omar Barghouti, embraces armed struggle as a legitimate right, and members of terrorist groups such as Hamas are affiliated with its national committee.
  • See the ADL’s latest report on how BDS activists are refocused on attacking Israeli, Jewish businesses and individuals since October 7th.
