No More 9-to-5… Now What?

Retirement Reimagined Workshop Launches at JFS

“Inspired!”
“Engaged!”
“Empowered!”

These are just some of the ways participants described how they felt after completing the Retirement Reimagined workshop series.

While many people eagerly anticipate retirement throughout their working years, the reality can feel unexpectedly disorienting after the initial honeymoon period. Common challenges include:

  • Facing an empty calendar
  • Realizing how much identity was tied to a career
  • Feeling a loss of purpose
  • Missing the daily interactions with colleagues or clients

It’s no surprise—retirement is one of life’s biggest transitions. Yet, unlike other milestones, few of us receive meaningful preparation. Most retirement planning focuses on finances, but a fulfilling retirement requires much more. It affects our daily routines, social lives and even family dynamics.

That’s why Jewish Family Service of Metro Detroit, in collaboration with Israel-based JDC-Eshel, created Retirement Reimagined—a culturally adapted workshop that empowers participants to envision and actively shape the next phase of their lives.

Participants from the first cohort walked away with renewed excitement, hope, pride and motivation to make the most of every day.
