Guess The Year!

Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the US flag, is celebrated annually on June 14. So, we’re waving the flag for this month’s Guess the Year photo. Here are some clues:

  • Recognize the building in the background? If you’re familiar with Federation buildings (and dates of occupation), that’ll help.
  • How about Federation staff and lay leadership? You may know the names of those pictured, but their titles at the time provided important hints. (L to R) Michael Berke, Executive Director; Earlie Butler, Building Superintendent; Mark Schlussel, President; and Bob Aronson, Executive Vice President.
  • After 93 years, the United Jewish Charities (Federation’s financial assets and real estate arm) became the United Jewish Foundation.

Think you know the year? Make your best guess and see the answer at the bottom of the page!

The flag was raised at the newly occupied Federation headquarters (AKA the Max M. Fisher Federation Building) in Bloomfield Hills. Just weeks earlier, the organization had moved from the Butzel Building in Detroit, its home of 40 years.
