Finding Aids

« back to the archives page

A finding aid is a document containing detailed information about a specific collection of papers or records within an archive. “Records” are archival collections that were created by an institution or organization and “Papers” are collections that were created by an individual or family.

A finding aid typically includes a biographical/historical note, which provides background information on the creator, a scope and content note, which explains the collection’s provenance and arrangement, and a content list, typically at the box and folder level.

Finding Aids are available for the collections that have been processed and are hyperlinked below. In some instances, there may be a collection that does not currently have a finding aid but may still be open to researchers. These collections are also listed. If a finding aid is not available for a collection you are interested in seeing, please contact the archivist for more information. Please remember that our collections are housed in two different locations. If you are planning to schedule a visit and are unsure where a collection is housed please contact terman@jfmd.org.
