Our hearts are with our sisters and brothers in Israel.
As the Jewish State defends itself against the growing and deeply concerning threats from Iran—including its nuclear ambitions and ongoing missile attacks—we are praying for the safety and protection of all Israelis. We are also thinking of our own Detroit Jewish community members who are in Israel right now, including the many young people visiting on their summer breaks. May you remain safe and shielded from harm.
As events unfold, we remain in constant communication with our Federation colleagues in Israel along with our partners on the ground. We pray for their safety and welfare, as well.
Please Note: The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) is holding a briefing at 1 p.m. today and we encourage all to listen in. Click here to register for the briefing.
We know that these historic events affect our friends, our family, and our shared sense of peoplehood. In this moment of fear and uncertainty, our connection to one another and our bond with Israel has never been more urgent or unshakable.
This evening, as we gather to welcome Shabbat and light the candles that bring peace into our homes, we ask you to keep the Israeli people in your hearts. Let the light we kindle tonight be a symbol of our unity and our longing for a world free from terror and fear. May God watch over Israel and the Jewish people.
Am Yisrael Chai.
