The Collective: One Community in Action

Supporting the people shaping Jewish Detroit.

On April 28th, more than 200 Jewish education and engagement professionals from 64 organizations came together for The Collective Annual Retreat—a day of learning, relationship-building and shared commitment to strengthening Jewish life across Metro Detroit.

The energy in the room reflected something that has been quietly building for years. Strong Jewish communities don’t happen by accident.

They are shaped by the educators, clergy, camp professionals, youth workers and engagement staff who show up every day to teach, connect and inspire—and who are stronger when they don’t do it alone.

That’s the idea behind The Collective, a Jewish Federation of Detroit initiative dedicated to supporting and connecting the professionals at the heart of Jewish life in our community. Through leadership cohorts, professional development, networking groups and community-wide research like the Teen Survey, The Collective creates the sustained connections and shared language that allow Jewish Detroit’s professionals to grow—and to grow together.

The Annual Retreat brought that spirit into one room. Professionals from synagogues, schools, camps, youth organizations and community agencies spent the day exchanging ideas and building relationships that extend well beyond a single event—a reflection of Federation’s role as a convener helping organizations collaborate around shared community priorities.

As Jewish Detroit continues to grow and evolve, so does the opportunity for this kind of meaningful collaboration. The Collective meets professionals where they are, equipping them with tools, training and a community of peers who understand the work from the inside.

When professionals are connected, supported and learning together, the people and families they serve feel it. That’s the investment Federation is proud to make—and The Collective is proud to carry forward.
