Abstract

In this oral history interview, Barbara Nurenberg speaks briefly about her parents and grandparents.  She talks about their immigration and how eventually everyone ended up in Michigan.  She mentions her upbringing in Owosso, MI and then her teen years in Flint, MI.  In high school, she took on a few leadership positions, such as being part of Michigan State Temple Youth and being involved in art and theater.

Nurenberg talks about her college years; going from University of Michigan, to New York University, then to Wayne, and finally doing post-graduate work at both Harvard and Michigan State. She talks about how she quickly moved up once she got the job.

Nurenberg then discusses the agency, its function and its history. She talks about the changes to the focuses over the years and also speaks about the current focuses.  She mention the staff and the budget of JVS.
