While Presidents’ Day is officially George Washington’s birthday, we’re commandeering the day to commemorate the past presidents of the Jewish Federation of Detroit. Or, one in particular, with this image featuring Henry Wineman (far right). Can you guess the year of this photo? Here are some clues:
- Henry Wineman was about 46 years old when he became president of the United Jewish Charities. Just two years into his term (he served as president for six), UJC transitioned to the Jewish Welfare Federation.
- When this photograph was taken, the position of Federation President was held by Samuel Rubiner.
- See that handsome guy, third from left, that’s the Honorable Avern Cohn, just 27 years old!
So, what’s your guess?
And the year is…1951!
This image was taken at a Federation meeting that honored fathers and sons who were working together on the Allied Jewish Campaign. Henry Wineman was amongst the honorees, with his son, James (not pictured). Two father/son duos are seated at this table: Richard and Ivor Kahn (1st and 2nd from left) and Toby and Joe Holtzman (4th and 5th from left).
