SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn. Overcoming Trauma: Youth Mental Health in Israel Post 10/7
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for this enlightening lunchtime discussion to hear about the\namazing work ELEM/Youth in Distress is doing in Israel\, especially in the wake\nof October 7th. \nOur guest speaker Renana Danon\, ELEM Assistant Director of Clinical Training\,\nwill share how the organization has been forced to pivot its focus to\naddressing the pervasive and debilitating mental health conditions Israeli\nyouth are experiencing during this time of crisis. She’ll also share firsthand\nstories from staff and youth in the field\, as Israelis navigate new and\ncomplex forms of individual and collective trauma. \nThe event is free. A light kosher lunch will be served. Please register by\nOctober 31. \nLooking forward to seeing you there. \nDr. Tracey Stulberg\n_Event Chair _ \nLior Zisser-Yogev\n_Community Shlicha_\n**Presented in partnership with American Friends of ELEM**\nFounded in 1982\, ELEM/Youth in Distress in Israel is the country’s leading\nnonprofit organization dedicated to treating and transforming the lives of\ntroubled and at-risk youth. \nThe 12\,500 young people they serve annually face-to-face and online deal with\ntremendous challenges\, such as domestic violence\, substance abuse\, neglect\,\nbullying\, homelessness and prostitution. \nELEM works with secular and religious Jews; Christian and Muslim Arabs\,\nincluding Bedouins; immigrants\, including those from the Former Soviet Union\nand Ethiopia; and the LGBT community\, most of whom live on the streets and\nwill not seek help from traditional social service groups. ELEM’s hundreds of\nprofessionals and thousands of volunteers don’t wait for referrals to treat\nthese youth but seek them out on their turf — on the streets\, in schools\, on\nthe Internet and at bars and nightclubs. ELEM offers over 90 programs in 42\ncities in Israel that provide counseling\, mentoring\, vocational training and a\nsafe space for Israeli youth to envision a positive future for themselves and\nbecome productive members of society. \nView event on Jlive: https://jlive.app/events/9281
