Maybe you’ve heard this before: “More than Jews have kept Shabbat, Shabbat has kept the Jews.” Or maybe not. But ever since the poet and philosopher Ahad Ha’am (1856-1927) first coined the phrase way back when, it’s been getting a lot of air time — and for good reason. Shabbat is a beloved and foundational tradition in Jewish life. But how do you make Shabbat special (and doable) for you? Join NEXTGen Detroit and Rabbi Megan Brudney for a virtual Friday night dinner where we’ll discuss what Shabbat is, how Shabbat is celebrated and how you can make Shabbat a meaningful experience in your home.
Prior to the event that Friday, we’ll deliver a Shabbat gift bag including grape juice, challah, candles and prayers. If you live outside a 20 mile radius of the Federation Building (6735 Telegraph Rd. in Bloomfield Hills) please email Mimi to discuss a pick-up option. When registering, please be sure to include an address for delivery and a cell phone number so that we can text you once your kit has been delivered, or if you live in an apartment building, to let you know we are there with your kit.
We encourage you to have your Friday night dinner ready so we can all dine around the Zoom Shabbos table together while we chat and learn.
This online event is intended for young adults ages 21 to 45 who are in an interfaith marriage or relationship.
Please register online before November 9.
