A special appearance by Jeannie Smith

Jeannie Smith is part of a new generation of Holocaust speakers who share the life stories from their parents’ first-hand experiences during the Holocaust. Her mother, Irene Gut OpDyke, was a gentile Polish rescuer, who saved thousands of Jewish lives while working for a high ranking German official.  Irene’s inspiring story became a nationally acclaimed Broadway play, Irena’s Vow, starring Tovah Feldshuh, and is recorded in her book, In My Hands: Memories of a Holocaust Rescuer.

Jeannie is a regular speaker for the Anti-Defamation League’s Bearing Witness Program and a national speaker for Jewish Federations of North America. She has worked with the Polish Embassy in New York City on Polish-Jewish relations and received the 2015 Civil Rights Award by the Anti-Defamation League.  Jeannie resides in Washington State with her husband, Gary. She’s a mother of three sons, a foster parent and a grandmother of 3 teenage grandchildren.

Jeannie was a phenomenal speaker, one of the best I’ve heard. While she speaks about a very sad time and troubling experience, her talk is absolutely inspiring and uplifting.”
– JKD, Toronto, Ontario
“Jeannie is amazing, dynamic, thoughtful, intriguing. Her mother’s story that she tells is riveting, and she tells it in a very exciting manner. She’s one of the best speakers I have ever heard.”
– LA, South River, NJ
