NEXTGen Detroit Pride Presents: Navigating Being Jewish and Queer

Cost: $5 a person before noon September 5th and $10 a person after (covers heavy appetizers) | There will also be a cash bar

Join NEXTGen Detroit Pride as we explore what it means to be Jewish and Queer in metro Detroit. We will have a conversation featuring a couple of our community members and their experiences. Discussion to follow.

We will be hearing from:

  • Ron Elkus, owner of The Shirt Box and an active member of Team Alex that raises funds for Michigan Make a Wish Foundation. He founded Simcha, a Jewish LGBT group in the 1980’s and has been active in the Jewish and LGBT communities his whole life.
  • Jessica Leuchter is a Ph.D. pre-candidate in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Michigan. She has been involved in USY in South Florida and Hillel at Wake Forest University. Currently, she founded and co-runs the University of Michigan Jewish LGBTQ grad student group “Gay Bloy!”.
  • Jayson Olson, founder of the first gender-neutral BBYO chapter in Michigan, Harvey Milk BBYO.
