Saving Lives When Disaster Strikes: An Evening with Dr. Ofer Merin

Join us as we welcome renowned Israeli cardiac and trauma surgeon Dr. Ofer Merin to Detroit for this special community-wide event presented by Federation’s Maimonides Society. Dr. Merin will speak about his experiences in the field and the challenges of providing medical care in disaster zones and responding to terror incidents.

As the IDF’s Chief of Field Hospitals, Dr. Merin has been a part of Israel’s international humanitarian efforts during the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the 2011 tsunami in Japan, the 2013 typhoon in the Philippines, the 2015 earthquake in Nepal and most recently the ongoing Syrian civil war. 

In addition to commanding a military field hospital for over a decade, Dr. Merin is the incoming Director of Shaare Zedek Hospital and professor of cardiac surgery at Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
