Make a Difference with Your Time and Talents

No matter your age or interests, the Women's Department has many opportunities for you to get involved. We hope you will join us!

Fundraising

Raise awareness of community needs and necessary funds by reaching out to women in our community. Hone your solicitation skills to reach out to other women for gifts to the Federation, plan fundraising events and participate in community fundraising efforts

Food For Thought

Be inspired by guest speakers on a variety of topics that relate to a broad based group of women in the community. Two events are held per year. Help to plan an event or attend!

It’s a Mitzvah

This one-time family-friendly hands-on volunteer program takes place in the fall. Volunteer to build sukkot, clean-up at Tamarack Camps, package food for the hungry, among many other projects.

Shalom Baby

This series of programs enables Jewish mothers and babies (up to age 36 months) to socialize and network in our community. Be on the planning committee to help plan community-wide events for moms or participate in any of the many programs throughout the year! Click here if you have a new baby, or know someone who does!

Tikkun Olam Volunteers (TOV)

Calling all volunteers! TOV plans and implements a number of hands-on volunteer programs that help “repair the world,” throughout the year. Participate on this committee to help plan events or come on out to volunteer!

Tzedakah Experience/Penny Harvest

Women’s Department, in conjunction with the Federation’s Alliance for Jewish Education and the Metro Detroit Board of Jewish Educators, hosts an educational experience that introduces 6th grade students and their families to local Jewish organizations, helps them prepare for their upcoming b’nai mitzvah, and teaches them about tzedakah. Help is needed to assist with preparations for Penny Harvest and Tzedakah Experience as well as at the event.

Missions/Travel

The metro Detroit Jewish community is closely tied with our Partnership 2000 Region in the Central Galilee, Israel. For more information on general Federation missions to Israel, click here.

This year, the Women’s Department is proud to be leading a Fundraising Leadership Mission to Israel. This eight-night experience in Israel (January 27-February 4, 2008) is designed to cultivate committed fundraisers, to provide education about the Jewish Federation and it’s national and international partners, and to teach the importance of solicitation by providing techniques to insure participant ease in approaching others to become active in Federation.

An $1800 minimum gift to the Jewish Federation in a woman’s name with a good faith commitment to continue giving at this level or higher is required to participate. There are three pre-mission and two post-mission training programs that are also required.

Women’s Passover Program

Prepare to celebrate Passover with an educational and experiential Passover program, involving recipes and food, seder table displays, and learning with a community of women. Join us to plan the event or take part in the evening.

Young Women’s Network

This is not your mother’s Women’s Department! We are planning educational and fundraising events and programs designed to engage young women in Women’s Department and the Jewish Federation. The work of Federation and Women’s Department is relevant to your life and we look forward to sharing our vision with you.
