Week 3: If I am not for myself, who will be for me?
January 23, 2014 | Gail Greenberg
This week’s theme…
Im ein ani li, mi li? (or how to be a part of the giving) Im ein ani li mi li? U-ch’she’ani le’atzmi mah ani? Ve-im lo achshav eymatai?
If I am not for myself, who will be for me? And if I am only for myself, what am I?
And if not now, when? (Pirkei Avot 1.14)
Where is the Money Hiding? (or what’s the best way to collect Tzedakah?)
Under your dresser? In the sofa cusions? From friends or family? Money you earned and want to share? It doesn’t matter how you collect it…just do it!
The Jewish Federation, as well as the agencies you will learn about at the Tzedakah Experience, spend time looking at all of the needs in the community before allocating (deciding how much) money will be given to help each group.
Watch these music videos to see how working together towards a common goal can be REALLY powerful!
