July 7: Walking on Water
July 7, 2014 | Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit
Well, we may not have exactly walked on water today, but we definitely floated…in the Dead Sea! Instead of going to Jerusalem we took advantage of our day and headed down south. The morning began with a beautiful hike through Ein Gedi, including water falls and animals, and then continued at the lowest place on Earth! Our teens had a blast rubbing themselves with mud, getting fish-pedicures, and also purchasing gifts from the Ahava store (perhaps for you!).
On the bus ride home, our tired teens took a much needed nap, came back to the hotel to shower, and then headed out one last time for a pizza picnic in the park! After eating, we had a short history lesson about Jerusalem. However, no one fell asleep because the lessons were short skits performed by our very skilled madrichim! We were out in the fresh, clean air until dark and then headed back to Ramat Rachel for our last night in Jerusalem…for now.
Tomorrow starts our much anticipated week in the desert: hiking Masada, riding camels, snorkeling in Eilat…enough of the city life for us! We will return to Jerusalem the last week of our mission so anything we missed now, we are sure to catch the second time around!
Some of you may have gotten calls from your teens-now you know just how much fun they are having! If you have not heard from them yet, not to worry. Calls will be made in the next few days and they will call once a week.
We hope you are enjoying your July back in Michigan. I think I speak for everyone when I say our July is just a bit better than yours 🙂
Until next time…Lehitraot!
