July 2: Shalom from Jerusalem!

July 2, 2014 | Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit

Hello to you all!

It is very late here and after being up for over 24 hours, this group is ready to sleep!

But before going to bed, a good coordinator would update you on our first day: After two plane rides, several movies, and lots of emotions, this year’s TM14 group landed at Ben Gurion airport and was greeted by our Israeli teens and families.  We’ve always said we have a home away from home in our partnership region and boy, did it show today!  Balloons, streamers, painted skin, banners…Everyone in the airport turned to look at the arrival of DETROIT!

From the airport, we had a beautiful welcome ceremony at Gan Havradim (the garden of roses) and then made our way to our first hotel.  The teens were pretty thankful for not only a nice place to call home for the next few days but also for a good home cooked meal!  After eating each bus got together for some getting-to-know-you programs and were then told to get some sleep!  Tomorrow (or rather, today in Israel), we have an amazing day ahead consisting of herding sheep, hiking, a little bit of learning, and a whole lot of fun and sun!

We promise to keep you updated as often as we can via this website.  In the meantime, should you have any questions, please contact Alicia Felhandler at felhandler@jfmd.org.

A big Laila Tov from this side of the ocean!
