Over One Hundred Teachers Honored at Reception

June 5, 2012 | Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit

On Tuesday, June 5, 2012, the Alliance for Jewish Education honored 121 congregational school teachers at a gala reception for Bogrei Nirim, graduates of this year’s Nirim teacher education program. The reception acknowledged continuing educational training that was undertaken by these teachers, earning 12 or more hours of credits over the just-completed school year. The majority of teachers earned over 20 credits, with one teacher actually earning as many as 43 credits.

During the evening’s festivities, the Diane and Emery Klein Award for Excellence in Teaching was presented to Ahuva Newman. Ahuva currently teaches at Temple Emanuel, Cong. Beth Shalom, and Cong. B’nai Moshe. Diane and Emery Klein were on hand as the award was presented to Ahuva, by two of her school directors, Geoffrey Berdy and Gail Gails.

A highlight of the evening was the musical entertainment, provided by Heller, Steyer, and Green. This trio consists of Cantor Penny (Heller) Steyer (Shir Shalom), her daughter, cantorial soloist Tiffany Green (Temple Kol Ami), and Penny’s son, Matt Steyer.

Bogrei Nirim teachers were also treated to a slide show of the year’s many teacher training events.

The evening concluded with the presentation of certificates to all of the teachers who became Bogrei Nirim last night.

The evening and year-long program of professional growth opportunities would not have been possible without the diligent support of Shoshana Baruch and supervision and guidance of Harvey Leven. Kol HaKavod to one and all!!!
