Israel Safety and Security Update

July 1, 2014 | Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit

We are all very profoundly saddened by the tragic news regarding the three Israeli teens. Although we do not have anything to add to what you have probably already seen, heard and read about this event, we want to reach out to you today as parents, professionals, and community members, and to reassure you that we are closely focused on developments in Israel.

Please remember that we always monitor closely the conditions and the safety and security of young people in Israel entrusted to our care. As always, we are in ongoing communication with the security office of the Jewish Agency for Israel, which monitors the locations and itineraries of all youth programs in the country. This security office has direct contact with the Israeli police and military. We receive immediate updates if ever there were to be reason to adjust program plans. Routes and itineraries are reviewed on a daily basis by both our staff and the security office. Our groups do not travel in or near the area where the recent tragic events took place.

At present, there are no plans to make changes to the program. We do have, of course, carefully considered contingency plans in place. We have an experienced and highly skilled professional staff on the ground who have indicated there are no additional safety concerns at this time.

We are confident that this mission will be an amazing experience for all involved.
