Professional Development

Professional Development opportunities are provided by Federation for every individual involved in teaching in Jewish schools.

Early Childhood Directors, Early Childhood Teachers, and Day School Teachers are each provided with a day-long opportunity to enhance their teaching skills through a retreat or conference, where experts in the field engage these educators with new techniques and ideas to take to their classrooms.

Congregational School Teachers are provided with multiple opportunities to enhance their professionalism, through participation in Nirim teacher training courses throughout the year, as well as through the S.E.E.D. one-day conference that takes place in August to prepare the teachers to kick-off the school year with a “bang”! Congregational school teachers can earn stipends for their participation in these programs.

A new initiative, funded by the Hermelin-Davidson Center for Congregation Excellence brought new teachers into the congregational educational field through the New Teacher Induction Program, which provided training, mentoring, and placement help.

Also included in Federation’s Professional Development program for educators are our community’s congregational school directors. The congregational school directors benefit from an annual two-day retreat program, where they learn about new resources available to them, or about new approaches to congregational education. The Federation also provides mentoring to directors on an as-needed basis.
