Shabbat Message for October 25

October 25, 2013 | Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit

Our community lost another patriarch this week with the passing of Hugh Greenberg, husband of Women’s Philanthropy Past President Carolyn Greenberg and father-in-law to Board member Illana Greenberg. Hugh left an incredible legacy with his commitment to our whole Jewish Community, especially his leadership as JCC Past President. Our Michigan Mensch Club is dwindling with the recent absence of community leaders like Hugh Greenberg and Emery Klein. According to the dictionary, the word mensch literally means “a decent person or human being; a good, honest, caring, compassionate and big-hearted person.” Even though we generally refer to a mensch as being male, there are no gender pronouns attributed to the definition, so in my book, many of you are helping to replenish our community’s Mensch Club by your continued commitment to volunteer and provide much needed resources. Thanks for reading these messages, keeping current and helping with our efforts to sustain and rejuvenate our community.

Shabbat Shalom,

Lisa
