Shabbat Message for November 28

November 28, 2014 | Roz Blanck

Other than a check-in with our leadership on Monday, it’s been a quiet Thanksgiving week. We hope you all enjoyed time with your family and loved ones. We are grateful to all of our supporters who have made the following possible since last Thanksgiving (along with much, much more):

  • In Israel, the conflict with Hamas affected Israelis across the nation, and especially those near Gaza in the south. In response, the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit led a special fundraising campaign that raised over 1.2 million dollars to provide support and trauma relief for those affected, including many children, seniors and other vulnerable individuals.
  • 1,000 Rosh Hashanah and Chanukah packages were created and delivered to seniors in non-Jewish living residences.
  • 5,700 individuals received loan support for a variety of life-saving and life-changing purposes.
  • In response to the recent local flooding, the Jewish Federation coordinated a relief effort that involved multiple agencies and organizations, volunteers, and private companies. To date, we’ve raised over $700,000 for direct support for these families.
