Shabbat Message for August 1

August 1, 2014 | Roz Blanck

Our eyes remained on Israel this week as today marks day 25 of Operation Protective Edge. This week, our own CEO Scott Kaufman was in Israel with Nora Barron, Sheri Ketai & Teri Farber Roth. Here’s part of what Scott posted on Facebook about their trip:

We were able to speak with some of soldiers injured today and their spirits were incredibly good. We were uncomfortable imposing, but one solider said: “You came to Israel for 48 hours and you came to see us? That means a lot to us and be sure and tell everyone in America we are strong.” Am Yisrael Chai indeed!

Tisha B’Av, our annual fast day which commemorates the destruction of the First & Second Temples in Jerusalem begins on Monday evening . Once again, our beloved homeland is under siege.

If you haven’t done so already, please show you stand with Israel by seriously considering supporting Federation’s Israel Emergency Campaign. The money raised by this campaign so far has provided relief for 45,000 children, aid for 20,000 elderly & disabled, expanded trauma support for 15,000 Israelis & has strengthened assistance to dozens of communities hit hardest by the conflict.
