The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, a project of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, enables adult Jewish learners from all backgrounds to learn about our heritage and culture in a challenging and inspiring course of study. If you desire a strong foundation in Jewish learning, and want to incorporate that learning into your daily life, then this is the place for you. This is your opportunity to explore classic Jewish sources from Biblical through contemporary texts, to investigate issues of Jewish thought, practice, and ethics, and to advance your knowledge of Jewish history. The school meets weekly for 30 weeks from September to June for two years. Classes are taught by knowledgeable and experienced faculty who encourage group discussion and an exploration of ideas. Come study in an intellectually stimulating, pluralistic, non-denominational learning environment using a curriculum written by a team of scholars and educators at the Hebrew University. There are no prerequisites, grades, or exams. The school is open to any member of the Jewish community. The CoursesFirst-Year CoursesRhythms of Jewish Living examines the Jewish calendar and life cycle events. Students explore ideas, beliefs, and practices that define Jewish life. Purposes of Jewish Living explores Jewish thoughts and beliefs. Essential Jewish theological concepts are presented through in-depth examination of the Bible, Talmud, and other sacred texts. Second-Year CoursesEthics of Jewish Living addresses the relationship between Jewish life and ethical behavior. The focus is on how Jewish tradition shapes our relationship with other human beings. Dramas of Jewish Living presents the significant moments, experiences, and issues that have shaped Jewish history from the Biblical period through the formation of the modern State of Israel. Courses are subject to cancellation based on insufficient enrollment. Tuition per Year• $475 Subsidized Tuition (The actual cost of tuition is $650. RegistrationRegistration form must be accompanied by a minimum deposit of $100 per person. Balance of payment is due by September 25, 2007. Tuition includes study materials with the exception of a Tanakh (Bible). Refund PolicyFull refunds, less a $50 processing fee, will be given through the fourth week of class. No refunds after November 2, 2007. SnowbirdsAre you a snowbird? The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School has a special program for you. Begin and end your classes in Michigan, transfer to an alternate Melton location during the winter months. An additional $100 per person snowbird fee covers up to 15 classes at an alternate location. An additional fee of $20 per person will be charged per class in excess of 15 classes away. Advanced registration is required, space is limited and subject to availability.
