In the aftermath of the Hamas attacks of October 7, the Swords of Iron War, and the continued demonization of Israel, Jewish communities worldwide are facing an unprecedented and rapidly escalating threatening environment. Antisemitic rhetoric has intensified; and acts of violence and intimidation against Jews and Jewish institutions have multiplied at an alarming pace.
For more than a decade, The Jewish Agency for Israel’s Security Assistance Fund has stood alongside Jewish communities around the world, helping them protect what matters most: their people, their institutions, and their ability to live openly and proudly as Jews. At a time when gathering to pray, learn, or celebrate should be an expression of continuity and hope, the Security Assistance Fund helps ensure that these moments can take place in safety and dignity. Through essential financial support, JAFI helps strengthen the physical security of synagogues, community centers, schools, and other Jewish community facilities, enabling Jewish life to flourish even in challenging circumstances. These investments save lives and protect property by preventing unauthorized access, deterring potential attackers, safeguarding against explosions, intrusions, and vehicular assaults, and supporting the identification of perpetrators when threats arise.
In Germany, for instance, assistance includes the provision of protective vests for use by community security personnel, the installation of secure communications infrastructure connecting synagogues, Chabad houses, and community centers to a central security command center, and the deployment of surveillance connectivity, security software, VPN systems, radio communication equipment, and select access control improvements.
In France, support includes security training and seminars for community security personnel, ongoing support for community security operations, facial recognition software, and logistical support related to security coordination and travel. In South Africa, funding covers support for community security operations, the installation of a mobile camera system, and security upgrades for a synagogue and community center, including perimeter fencing, walls, cameras, intercom systems, and alarms. We also support security training and preparedness, including seminars and training courses, as well as Krav Maga training for security personnel.
The Jewish Agency is now receiving 10-12 requests per month from countries around the world asking for security assistance. Our community support helps to prevent tragedies before they occur and ensures that Jews everywhere can gather, worship, learn, and celebrate their identity with confidence and safety.
