JFamily (Enriching Jewish Experiences for Families)

What IS JFamily? Think of us as the umbrella . . . a connector . . . a concierge to Jewish family education for the Metropolitan Detroit Jewish community. We are here for you and your family.

JFamily, a part of Federation’s Alliance for Jewish education, provides consultation and mentoring to individual families to help them navigate their Jewish journey. eMail JFamily to a set up a one-on-one consultation.

JFamily serves over 3,500 families directly, and—through support of Jewish Family Educators and Jewish family education grants—serves more than 8,000 families indirectly!

JFamily provides funding for the JFEs in seven sites, funded in partnership with the JFMD. JFEs provide positive information Jewish educational opportunities to thousands of families each year. Berman JFE Grants provide $30,000 of funding for new and innovative Jewish family education programming, family camp and collaborative programming for the community. Thanks to the Mandell L. and Madeleine H. Berman Foundation for funding our community’s family educators and grants.

JFamily provides Jewish family education consultation and mentoring to preschool directors, education directors, and teachers through JFamily staff for those sites that do not have a funded Jewish Family Educator (JFE). Please contact JFamily if you would like to set up a consultation.

JFamily creates linkages and partnerships in the community through community-wide JFamily programs such as the Tzedakah Experience, the Great Purim Parcel Project and the Barbara and Douglas Bloom Matzah Factory.

Federation and generous donors are the primary funders of the PJ Library program which brings Jewish literature to over 1,800 children (and their parents) and connects families to congregational and community-wide programs. Books are FREE for children aged 6 months through age 8. Find our more about PJ Library and sign up at pjlibrary.org.

For the newest chapter of PJ Library—for children aged 9 to 11 years—check out www.pjourway.org to sign up for FREE books! Pick your own books! Create a trailer! Write a review!

Through SPARC (Single Parent Alliance and Resource Connection), JFamily connects single-parent families to education, fun programs and serves as a concierge to valuable community resources. If you’re interested in participating, click here for the SPARC signup form.

Through jbabydetroit!, JFamily connects Jewish families from bump to birth and beyond! The program is for parents to be and parents of newborns to age 2.
