A Fair to Remember
A One-Day Communitywide Celebration at the Michigan State Fair
Tickets go on sale July 1
In the early years of the State of Israel, thousands of people gathered annually to celebrate Israel at the State Fairgrounds in Detroit.
For Israel’s 60th anniversary, we are going to rekindle the spirit, energy and pride of those exciting days by holding the largest gathering of the Jewish community in more than half a century. On August 21, 2008 over 15,000 people from Detroit and neighboring Jewish communities will join together at the Michigan State Fair for the greatest celebration in the history of our Jewish community. We will have exclusive use of the State Fairgrounds (including rides and attractions) the day before it opens to the general public, which allows us to “Israelize” the State Fair. In addition, the closing ceremonies for the Maccabi Games, being hosted in Detroit, will take place at the State Fair that evening.
How your organization can participate at the fair:
- Agree to be a partner organization by promoting the event to your constituents and helping sell tickets. A portion of the tickets sales will be donated back to your organization.
- All partner organizations will be included in publicity for the event, as well as will be featured on the website: jewishdetroit.org/israelsixty.
- Contact our Israelization team to create and/or sponsor Israelthemed, hands-on experiences for the festival at the State Fair. This should be something beyond an information booth and could tie into your organization’s mission in a creative way. If you are interested, our Israelization Team can help generate ideas.
