The Irwin I. Cohn Michigan Jewish Cemetery Index provides burial information for over 64,000 Jews who died between the mid-1800′s and 1999. While many cemeteries were very helpful in allowing access to their records, old, damaged, incomplete, or missing records made the task of compiling a complete index impossible. As a result, our database does not contain every name. If you do not locate the name of a specific individual, please be advised that that person may well be buried in a Jewish cemetery in Michigan; this index is intended as a “first stop” for researchers.
A list of cemeteries is also included in the Index; please contact a cemetery directly for more information. As more burial information is received (especially from cemeteries outside the metropolitan Detroit area), it will be added to the index. We currently are adding records for the first decade of the 21st century.
